October Session

This session's prompts were, is there such as thing as neurodivergent arts? Does neurodivergent arts sit within disability arts, or does it have its own space?'

Pernille mentioned work around 'Monotropic split' and here are Fergus Murray and Wenn Lawson's website detailing Monotropism https://monotropism.org/ if you would like to learn more about the concept.

Fergus writes and researches widely in and around the Neurodivergent community and if you are interested in seeing some of their work please follow these links in your own time : https://oolong.medium.com/ . They can also be found on Facebook but not so frequently these days : https://www.facebook.com/FerrousMu/ and they are a co-founder of Weird Pride Day to - https://www.facebook.com/weirdprideday

We touched on needs and research and a member suggested this:

The Chichester department mentioned is run by Dr Benjamin T Sharpe. Please see links for details https://www.chi.ac.uk/people/benjamin-sharpe/

RSD (rejection sensitive dysphoria) was mentioned - this may be something to explore forwards in terms of applying for open calls for example.

Time is a big consideration for Neurodivergent and/ or Disabled Artists and Creatives and there is research around 'Crip time' itself. This following piece might be of interest to you to: 'Six Ways of Looking at Crip Time' https://dsq-sds.org/article/id/1565/

Mia Mingus 'Access intimacy' work was mentioned. Which was new to me in this definition and I am relishing diving into when time allows. Here is an overview via the Open Access 'StimPunks' website ( a very useful repository if you haven't come across it before):

While we didn't come to definitive conclusions about the prompts/queries, they're worth pondering as we move forward. I hope they planted some seeds for thought.
I hope the above is useful and I've recalled aspects correctly (let me know if not or you wish to add something). These topics will likely continue to evolve as understanding, research, and Neurodivergent culture progresses.
